Zum Ende des Winters sind wir noch mal ins Warme geflohen und genießen den karibischen lifestyle auf Barbados.
Der Wind lässt bisher noch zu wünschen übrig, aber das lässt sich bei den sonstigen Gegebenheiten durchaus verschmerzen.
Leider ist der Wind etwas schwach, aber dafür haben wir seit gestern abend ein Auto und konnten so heute Soup Bowl, den wohl bekanntesten, und auch von Kelly Slater besuchten, Surfspot auf Barbados abchecken. Obwohl die Wellen heute sehr klein waren hat es Spass gemacht ein paar sehr guten Surfern zuzusehen und es reichte dann sogar für ein paar barrels. Die nächsten Tage kommt laut Vorherssage richtig swell dort rein, dann werden wir wohl nochmal zum gucken hinfahren.
Nach ein paar Tagen: Immernoch kein Wind, also sind wir heute quasi einmal um die gesamte Insel gefahren: Vom South Point, wo wir wohnen, über die Hauptstadt Bridgetown, bis zum North Point und dann an der Ostküste, mit Zwischenstop am Soup Bowl und Mushroom Bay zurück in den Süden.
Erst einmal reichte es für den 9er und die Wellen auf dem Riff waren auch schon nicht schlecht. An den Tagen vorher kam ein sehr großer north swell rein. Wir hatten gehofft, am soup bowl ein paar wipeouts zu sehen zu bekommen - verständlicherweise traute sich jedoch niemand in die haushohen Monster. Auch wir haben die windlose Zeit genutzt um mal ein bisschen surfen zu üben. getting there...
Ansonsten haben wir die letzten Tage sehr viel mit Britta und Bastian Langer, die zufällig auch gerade auf der Insel sind, surfen. Am Osterwochenende wurde in Oistins ganz gross das Fischfest gefeiert und am Ostermontag sind wir zufällig bei einem Pferderennen vorbeigekommen und haben für eine Weile Halt gemacht und etwas Wettluft geschnuppert.
